The GSA encourages a social atmosphere within the department by organising regular games nights, welfare teas, drinks socials and pizza nights. We also coordinate a number of academic events, inviting speakers from a variety of academic and non-academic career paths to share their experiences and inspire attendees to think about their own career aspirations and skills outside of their DPhil. Everyone in the department is warmly invited to these events, regardless of their role or job title. We work closely with the Postdoc and Research Staff Association (PRSA) to ensure a broad range of opportunities are available to all members of the Dunn School.
The final role of the GSA is to provide a support network for the students. When joining the department, students are placed into a “mentoring family” consisting of peers from their cohort and “parents” from an older year group. This helps students to settle in and feel welcomed into the department, while also providing an extra level of guidance. In addition, our Welfare Reps are available to help all students during their time in the Dunn School, providing a friendly face to turn to for support and advice, in a fully confidential manner.
The GSA can be contacted through the Dunn School GSA Facebook Group, @dunnschoolgsa on Instagram, @Dunn_GSA on Twitter or by emailing one of the current members:
