Professor David Greaves and Dr Paul Fairchild awarded teaching excellence awards 2019

The 2019 Teaching Excellence Awards ceremony saw Dunn School’s Professor David Greaves and Dr Paul Fairchild rewarded for their dedication and hard work within the Medical Sciences Division.

This year’s ceremony was held in the TS Eliot Theatre, Merton College, on Wednesday 23rd October. This event was hosted by the Head of Division, Professor Gavin Screaton, the Deputy Head of Division – Education, Professor David Vaux, and the Head of Education Policy and Planning Jane Dale.

Since 2006, The Teaching Excellence Awards Scheme has been recognising and celebrating excellence in teaching, supervision, the organisation and development of teaching, and support for teaching and learning, within a research-intensive environment. This year’s ceremony had the highest number of nominations, awardees and the largest attendance to date.

During this ceremony, Professor David Greaves was awarded one of the eight “Project” awards and funding for his work in providing teaching and learning support to students. Professor Greaves’ work involves developing a new eLearning online resource to support pre-clinical medical students throughout their studies at Oxford.

Professor David Greaves says: “

Dr Paul Fairchild was the School’s second recipient of the night, who was one of the eleven recipients for the “Excellent Teacher” Award. Dr Fairchild is a lecturer for undergraduate medical students, biomedical scientists and biochemistry students. His award celebrated his teaching for Third Year medical students in the theme of “Infection and Immunity”.

“It is a great honour to have been considered worthy of an Excellent Teacher Award. The opportunity to teach such a talented body of students while working alongside such wonderful colleagues has always been a great privilege,” said Dr Fairchild.

We would like to again congratulate Professor David Greaves and Dr Paul Fairchild, and all of the winners of 2019 on their recognition.
