Sir William Dunn School of Pathology and Oxford Brookes University awarded joint BBSRC grant for a new electron microscope

A new state-of-the-art electron microscope will soon be on its way to Oxford after the success of a joint BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) grant application from Oxford Brookes University and the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology. The new instrument will be a 3View field emission scanning electron microscope, which is capable of producing large, high resolution volumes of biological samples using a technique called serial block face sectioning. This enables the three-dimensional architecture of whole cells and tissues to be reconstructed and analysed at the ultrastructural level. The microscope will be based in Headington and jointly run by the two departments under a shared access agreement. To learn more about the serial block face sectioning technique and how it could benefit your research, please contact Dr Errin Johnson from the Dunn School Bioimaging Facility.
