Science writing competition victory fuels science journalism career ambition for Fodor Group graduate student
The Fodor group’s Bernadeta Dadonaite has won first prize in the British Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (BSGCT) Science Writing Competition for her essay ‘Gene Therapy Against HIV: Fighting The Virus In Disguise‘ fuelling her ambition to pursue a career in science journalism. The announcement was made with publication of her award winning blog on the BSGCT website on 21 April 2017.
The competition aims to recognise outstanding written communication aimed at an interested lay audience, by researchers at all career stages on the topics of gene and cell therapy.
Bernadeta is a graduate student on the Wellcome Trust Infection, Immunology and Translational Medicine (IITM) DPhil programme and enjoys blogging on a range of science related topics. Commenting on her motivation to enter the competition she said: “I like writing and my aim is to be a science journalist. Winning the award shows I’m on the right track and I’m really pleased.”
As well as validating her prospective career path, victory brings a cash prize of £250, free registration to this year’s BSGCT annual conference and a year’s membership of the society
Bernadeta is an avid science blogger and has been honing her accessible and engaging writing style over the past five years.
