Dunn School gains Athena SWAN Silver Award

The Dunn School of Pathology has been granted the Athena SWAN Silver award in the September 2015 awards round.

The award is in recognition of the department’s ongoing commitment and progress in advancing the careers of women researchers in the department.

Matthew Freeman, Head of Department said:  this scheme helps ensure the Dunn School takes seriously the issue of gender equality in all aspects of academic careers. This is something I personally feel very strongly about, so I am extremely pleased with this success.”

Athena SWAN awards recognise and celebrate good practice in recruiting, retaining and promoting women’s careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in academia.

The Dunn School is continuing rolling out an action plan strengthening HR policies, addressing reporting and monitoring challenges, and improving internal communications.

Professor Freeman stressed the need to avoid complacency and encouraged feedback from members of the department on issues of concern and requested their continued support in implementing the action plan.
