The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) has announced today their new cohort of members. EMBO membership and associate membership recognises leading scientists for their outstanding achievements in the life sciences. Emma Slack and Kevin Foster join more than 2,200 life scientists across Europe and the world.

Professor Emma Slack is the Barclay Williams Chair of Molecular Immunology, in association with The Queen’s College. Her group’s goals are to discover fundamental immunological principles in the interaction of bacteria with our gut, and to pioneer oral vaccines and methods of engineering the microbiome to improve health and protect against disease. Emma also holds a joint appointment with the newly established Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering (BIIE) in Basel, Switzerland.

Professor Kevin Foster combines his unique background in maths, ecology, evolution and microbiology to study microbial communities. He is particularly interested in bacterial competition, and has applied the logic of ecology and evolution to microbiology. He is the Chair of Microbiology, in association with Wadham College.
