Professor Joan Steitz delivers Heatley Lecture

March 2, 2016
The Dunn School enthusiastically welcomed Professor Joan Steitz to the department when she presented the prestigious Norman Heatley Lecture on 1 March 2016.

The Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, Yale University, delivered a lecture entitled: ‘non-coding RNAS of viral and cellular origin: more surprises’ with dynamism and excitement, to a packed audience in the MSTC lecture theatre.

Host and long term friend, Professor Nick Proudfoot said: “Very few scientists can match her stellar productivity over 40 years, with recent papers in top journals from her lab still appearing at amazing regularity.”

Following the lecture Joan enjoyed a reception with members of the department and dinner in the evening with a number of group leaders at Lincoln College.

The Norman Heatley Lecture is an annual event in honour of Norman Heatley, considered to be the unsung hero of the penicillin story.
