The Dunn School hosted its annual summer party in the University Parks on 21 July 2019.
Held exactly a year after the fabulous 2018 party, the 2019 party was equally successful with around 300 people from across the Dunn School community attending. Students, postdocs, support and admin staff, members of the cleaning team, plus family and friends enjoyed a pleasant afternoon of delicious food, drinks, recreational activities and music.
Head of Department Professor Freeman said, “I consider the summer party one of the highlights of the department’s social calendar and would like to thank all those involved organising it. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves and I’m delighted my fine weather guarantee yet again held true this year!”
The organisers worked exceptionally hard to ensure that there was plenty of entertainment for children and adults alike. This year they encountered a small drama when the operators of the traditional bouncy castle and the mini golf cancelled their attendance only a few of days before the party. The determined organisers did not rest until they found an adequate substitute.
The highlight of the entertainment was a giant zorbing arena suitable for both adults and children. Another new attraction this year was a Football Darts, where the winner was, Marcus Bottomley, one of the party organisers, with 135 points. Additional activities included, volleyball, soap bubbles and a bouncy castle for the youngest guests. Dunn School scientist, Stephanie Barker, offered remarkable face painting, which attracted long queues throughout the party. Of course, guests also enjoyed spending the afternoon relaxing in the light breeze and chatting with colleagues and friends.
Phillip Cobden, from the organising committee, said: “I really appreciate the efforts of everyone involved, it all came together on the day perfectly. It’s a fantastic family event, I am not sure how we are going to better ourselves for next year, the bar is getting pretty high!”
