The annual summer party hosted at the University Parks for all Dunn School members and their families on the 22nd July 2018, turned out to be a magnificent seasonal-event. With the sun shining relentlessly, the Head of the Department, Prof Matthew Freeman’s weather predictions were spot on, yet again. The effort by the organising committee proved to be worthwhile, with an outstanding turn out of approximately 380 people attending the event.
A range of games and sports for adults and children alike, a bouncy castle for kids and an assortment of food options, coupled with a live DJ performance added to the sunny spirit of the party. The summer party also served as a good meeting point for past and present members of the Dunn school, as well as their extended family members. Free ice creams distributed post lunch proved to be the real cherry on top. Tatjana Terentjeva, the photographer for the occasion, captured many fond memories through her lens.
The organising committee consisted of Dunn School members, who volunteered to sell out the tickets and host the event: Philip Cobden, Bruce Coppen, Marcus Bottomley, Peter Stroud, Wayne Swan, Dzmitry Batrakou, Line Eriksen, Sylvina James, Ross Griffiths-Walford and Jo Peel. They showcased an infectious team spirit that prompted even their families and friends to lend a helping hand.
When asked about their experience, Philip Cobden voiced the excitement shared by the organising committee: “Another fantastic party, possibly the best yet. All the guests really got into the spirit of things. Eat, Drink, Chill with good company and of course Volleyball. As organisers we cannot ask for more from our guests.”
Matthew Freeman described the event to be a tradition that defines the Dunn School, and part of many other efforts to make the department a friendly and enjoyable place to work. He also said: “It was the most successful summer party yet and, like many such things, the smoothness of the operation was entirely down to the amount of work that had gone on behind the scenes by an outstanding team of volunteers.”
The Dunn School summer party has transformed into an annual event that the members of the department look forward to eagerly. After all, who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by the warmth from the bright sun and the love of their families and friends.
