The excellent progress being made by Dunn School engineering apprentice Marcus Bottomley has been recognised at an awards ceremony in Bicester on 22 June 2017.
The sixteen-year-old was awarded runner up in the most improved apprentice category at the High Sherriff of Oxfordshire Young Engineer Awards held at the Bicester headquarters of EP Barrus Ltd.
The annual awards, sponsored by Activate Learning, Lucy Electric and EP Barrus Ltd, celebrate the achievements of the best and most improved engineering students and apprentices aged 14 – 18. John Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Lucy Electric and High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Jane Cranston hosted the awards ceremony.
Marcus was nominated by his assessor from Activate Apprenticeships, Darren Drinkwater. Darren said: “In the workplace Marcus has made excellent progress, he is working as a technician to assist the laboratory staff and is responsible for ensuring all equipment is maintained and fit for purpose, repairing or replacing components as and when required. Marcus has made excellent progress with his apprenticeship both in college and in the workplace and his runner up award as most improved apprentice is testament to his progress.”
Frances Wright, Human Resources Manager at the Dunn School said: “The Dunn School and University of Oxford as a whole actively supports apprenticeships, not only to develop the skills of local young people but grow the talent pool for our recruitment, it’s a win-win! Our facilities managers, Wayne Swan and Peter Stroud, who supervise Marcus here are delighted with his success in the awards and are dedicated to supporting his future development as a young engineer.”
Marcus began his apprenticeship in November 2016 with Activate Apprenticeships and attends the Technology Campus in Blackbird Leys alongside his work placement at the Dunn School of Pathology.
