Aartjan is currently a Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow at the Dunn School and takes up his appointment in Cambridge in June 2017.
The transition from postdoc to group leader is a major career milestone. Commenting on his appointment Aartjan said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the offer!”
Aartjan will continue his research on the biochemistry and biophysics of the RNA polymerases of RNA viruses, such as flu, following his move to Cambridge.
Dunn School Head of Department Matthew Freeman acknowledged that Cambridge’s gain is the Dunn School’s loss. He praised not only Aartjan’s research excellence but also the excellence of his varied contributions to the life of department through teaching, science communication and public engagement.
Professor Freeman said: “I fully expect Aartjan to make his mark on virus research but also to be someone who will be prominent in his department and across the University of Cambridge.”
