The 2016 Dunn School Christmas raffle raised a departmental record of £1,740.35 for charity, organisers confirmed on 10 January 2017.
Party hosts, the Freeman and Baena-Lopez labs, ran the raffle raising funds for Oxford based learning disability and autism charity, Yellow Submarine.
Yellow Submarine, Co-Director Kate Sankey said: “The Dunn School’s donation will help us continue our work supporting people with learning disabilities to live life to the full. We have a fantastic track record at coaching young people with learning disabilities to ‘do more’ and to ‘need less’. Do more in terms of combatting isolation, community engagement and employment. Need less… by teaching life skills that promote independence, reducing dependence on charities such as ours.”
Dunn School members will be most familiar with the charity through its social enterprise café in Park End Street, Oxford but the organisation delivers a wide range of projects for young people and adults including school holiday programmes, youth clubs, residential holidays and training and employment.
Lab groups take turns organising the Christmas party and as hosts get to choose the charity they would like the department to support.
