Legendary summer party returns
The Dunn School held its annual summer party in the University Parks
After many months of social distancing and restrictions, the famous Dunn School summer party returned to roam the University Parks on Sunday, the 17th of July. Approximately 350 Dunn Schoolers and their family members attended the summer party, among them students, postdocs, staff scientists, and last but not least, admin and support staff. In addition, past Dunn Schoolers who left during the pandemic and did not have a chance for a proper farewell were invited to the party, and those who accepted were greeted with open arms. Head of department, Prof. Matthew Freeman said: “Dunn School parties are always excellent, but this one was extra special. The chance to come together after all the lockdowns, combined with inviting back so many people who left while we couldn’t say goodbye properly, made It a very happy occasion. Huge thanks to everyone who worked to make it possible.
The traditional guarantee for nice weather by the head of the department, Prof. Matthew Freeman, proved successful, as usual, when this year was particularly sunny and warm. The sunny weather was perfect for the BBQ feast which was enjoyed by all attendees. This year the organisers outdid themselves with catering options to accommodate a plethora of dietary requirements, making sure that nobody is left out. A great selection of cold drinks was warmly welcomed too, in light of the bright afternoon weather.
Those who were not confined to the shade enjoyed games and activities for children and adults alike. Some of the most popular activities included Crazy Golf, giant Football darts, Beat the Buzzer, Fishing for Ducks and many more. Face painting was especially popular among the younger party guests. The party was lifted to the next level thanks DJs Steve Palmer and Cenzo Scoglio who played great summer tunes.
It could not have been clearer that the Dunn School community was excited to go back to the traditions of fantastic social atmosphere. Many voices expressed their gratitude to the organising committee for putting together such a brilliant party.
Philip Cobden, who led the team organising the event, said “I am delighted that the party went so well and everyone who could come got to enjoy getting together with great food, entertainment, and drinks. Personally, I cannot wait to do it all again next year and I am so grateful to my colleagues who made today possible.”
