Hayley Lavender wins Meningitis Research Foundation Conference Poster prize

Hayley Lavender from the Tang group has won first prize in the poster competition at the Meningitis Research Foundation’s tenth international conference at The Royal Society in London on 5 November.

Hayley’s poster “Competition between host molecules influences susceptibility to meningococcal disease” was selected by the judging panel because of its high scientific merit and relevance to this year’s conference theme: “Meningitis and Septicaemia in Children and Adults 2015”.

Hayley said: “I was delighted to win the Meningitis Research Foundation Conference Poster prize.  Our project investigated the molecular basis of susceptibility to meningococcal disease, by analysing the interactions between blood factors that influence the human body’s immune response to the bacteria.”

The bi annual conference brought together internationally renowned experts from a range of specialties in the UK and abroad to address the most important issues of the day, including: the latest developments in prevention of emerging and existing strains of meningitis and septicaemia, prospects for population protection by reducing spread of infection, advances from research, and issues in clinical management of sepsis and meningitis.
