2016 Dunn School Bioimaging Awards winners announced

The winners of the Dunn School Bioimaging Facility Awards 2016 have been announced at the Departmental Symposium held on 9 January 2017 in the University of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Teaching Centre Lecture Theatre.   


The Dunn School’s Professor Pedro Carvalho, Dr Marion Brown and Deputy Finance Manager, Audra Giles judged this year’s competition.


Audra said: “As a non scientist I found the images fascinating and exciting and certainly being on the panel made a change from the day job in finance.”


The panel announced the winners as: 


Light Microscopy


  • Winner – Salah Elias (Robertson Lab, for a second year in a row  – Ita Costello from the Robertson group won last year)
  • Runner-up – Sonia Muliyil and Clemence Levet (Freeman Lab)


Electron Microscopy


  • Winner – Justin Deme (Lea lab)
  • Runner-up – Jessica Valli (Gluenz lab)


Most Humorous (new category!)


  • Winner – Marvat Shurhi (Hassan lab)
  • Runner-up – Flavia Moreira-Leite (Gull lab)


Prizes included a coffee machine, Amazon gift vouchers, binoculars, miniature microscopes and merchandise – a calendar, mouse mats and mugs – featuring the award winning images.
