Every month Postdocs from different research groups organise the “Dunn drinks” – an informal social event open to the whole department. It is a chance to network and meet colleagues from different groups and academic disciplines. Payment for drinks and snacks is voluntary, and the (normally!) generous kitty is passed on to the group organising the next meeting.
Postdoc Coffee Morning
Every first Wednesday in a month the Postdoc Association organises a coffee morning. This is an opportunity to discuss topics relevant to postdocs in the department with a cup of tea/ coffee and some biscuits.
Annual Postdoc Symposium
The Postdoc Symposium is a yearly event, organised by and for Postdocs at the Dunn School. Postdocs get the chance to present their work to the whole Department, either in a 15-minute talk or a poster presentation. Coffee and lunch breaks, as well as a reception afterwards, provide ample opportunity for networking with our DPhil students, fellow Postdocs and group leaders. The Symposium thus facilitates the development of new ideas and potential collaborations. Furthermore, it provides valuable practice for presentation at international conferences and for public speaking.
Beside the scientific side of the Symposium, there’s also a part to play in its organisation. There are opportunities to chair sessions or to assist with judging posters for the poster prize. Our Symposium is therefore a great opportunity to hone scientific and networking skills in a friendly setting, and also to develop organisational skills or to have a go at leading discussions of scientific work.
The next Postdoc Symposium will take place in Spring 2017. We will keep you updated!
